Not much is known about Dr. Stofer, Duck Call Business. Dr. Stofer made duck calls from the 1930's to the 1950's. The calls were sold directly by Stofer and were seen in a number of national publications.

His high production metal reed calls, based on the Turpin design, were used by many sportsmen in the 30’s 40's and 50's. This was very popular call of that era, and very collectible, due to the variety of styles.  Calls were stamped in several ways.  Including the following…

E. STOFER K.C. Mo

E. STOFER KCMO

E.S. STOFER K.C. Mo

E. STOFER Lone Jack Mo

SPECIAL STOFER Duck Call

Reelfoot Lake Duck Call

BEAN LAKE E.STOFER Duck Call,

Some Calls had a circular white stamp with STOFER Bean Lake Duck Call

Stofer Calls were made in Kansas City, and  Lone Jack MO areas using walnut barrels.   Early Stofers inserts were more rounded than the later maple inserts.  Early inserts were made of cedar and walnut, with the latter being the rarest.   The latter maple insert has an almost an upside down trapezoid shape. The maple insert with a walnut wedge are the most common configuration.

Walnut burl and checkered calls were also available.
